Second place in the competition for a conceptual architectural design for pedestrian overpasses over the Sofia Ring Road

This project is an ideal solution for the construction of pedestrian overpasses, provides free and safe crossing of the Sofia ring road in certain places with increased concentration of pedestrian traffic. The project solution aims to provide safe crossings for pedestrians, including mothers with prams, the elderly and people with disabilities.
The conceptual design will serve as a task for project development in the next phase.

Although the superstructure is covered, according to the location of the facility and the annual climatic features of Sofia, the designer has provided flooring that preserves the above functionalities in the most adverse weather conditions.
The flooring under the trade name ‘flu anti-slip’ consists of longitudinally arranged longitudinal composite elements imitating natural material, made of fiberglass.

The walls of the facility are designed with steel, galvanized mesh with a small hole in the cells. This airy and transparent solution was chosen to ensure ventilation of the pedestrian overpass, contributes to the overall safety of road vehicles from accidental household or other waste dumped by pedestrians, and also gives spatial security to pedestrians, completing the interior space.

Ice lighting is provided under the railings. The interior lighting of the overpass is solved with LED cigars with IP 65. They are arranged in characteristic triangular shapes, an attack that does not unobtrusively emphasize the metal structure and turn it into an artistic element.
